Holiday Homes Insurance

The policy is designed to cover property overseas. The policy does not cover mobile homes, caravans, beach huts or any thatched properties. The countries where this type of policy is readily available are:

  • Spain
  • Portugal
  • France
  • Italy
  • Greece
  • Cyprus
  • Republic of Ireland
  • Others (Check with your insurance company for other covered areas, they vary greatly between companies)

The basic cover includes:

  • Fire, aircraft, explosion, lightning, storm and flood, theft, riot and malicious damage, impact by vehicles, animals or falling trees, earthquake (except Italy, Greece and Cyprus).
  • An increased policy excess of 2.5% of the Buildings Sum Insured applies in respect of Portugal earthquake damage.
  • Subsidence cover is not available except in Spain where it is free.
  • Accidental damage: whilst property is occupied by the insured or family is available at extra cost.
  • Buildings cover: The buildings insurance element is index-linked and on a new for old basis.

Optional coverage in the policy:

  • Loss of hiring charges as a result of any of the main perils.
  • Breakage of glass and sanitary fittings.
  • Trace & Access.
  • Debris removal, architect’s and surveyor’s fees.
  • Public liability: cover included for persons who, with your permission, temporarily occupy the property
  • Contents – The contents insurance element is index-linked and on a new for old basis. The basic cover for Contents of the property is similar to that for Buildings.
  • Theft by violent and forcible entry and cash in gas/electricity meters.
  • Theft and loss of keys.
  • Theft of garden furniture.
  • Emergency Travel Expenses
  • Following a major loss.
  • Travelling costs for the Insured Person.
  • Travelling costs for a member of the Insured’s family.
  • Temporary accommodation and/or expenses in the event of the home being uninhabitable.
